
Japanese Culture Festival – Spreading our Love and Passion for Japanese Culture
Every year on February, JAC organizes a Japanese Cultural Festival (JCF) within the NTU Campus. Its purpose is to draw the members closer and to introduce a little bit about Japanese culture to the rest of the school. 2015’s JCF was themed “Festivals of Japan” and saw three days of fun from 4th to 6th February, outside Nanyang Auditorium. Let us take a look at some of the games we had!

Uchiage – A Night to Remember
Uchiage originated from sumo wrestlers who held celebrations in order to express gratitude towards their teachers. JAC adopted this tradition for the main committee members to thank all their sub-committee members for the work put in into making the JCF (Japanese Cultural Festival), an event prior to Uchiage, a success.


Fried Chicken for Christmas, because why not?
If you are thinking of festive food that costs the equivalent of three meals in Singapore, you are sorely mistaken. According to web reports, KFC becomes one of the hottest place to get food from for Christmas in Japan.

Love to Live, as you would Live to Love
Love Live! (ラブライブ) School Idol Project is a Japanese multimedia project which has its own anime series, music CDs, anime music videos, two manga adaptations, novels and video games. It circles around a group of girls on their way to becoming idols in order to save their school from closing down due to lack of applicants.

Robot Hotel?!
Any robot fans around? Not quite along the line of Gundam and the likes but, well-renowned as the Japanese are for their robotics prowess, it comes as no surprise that Japan has recently announced the launch of a hotel, run (almost) entirely by – you guessed it – robots.

The year 2014 has ended and it was one filled with many new and awesome vocaloid music. Here, I will be sharing with you my personal top 10 favourite of all the creations in 2014.

Tea ceremony session by NUS Sado Club
On 7th January 2015, we attended a tea ceremony conducted by NUS Sado Club. The NUS Sado Club is a student interest group under the NUS Department of Japanese Studies. Established since 1989, the club practises the traditional Japanese tea ceremony in the Enshuryu style. We were excited to be given an opportunity to attend a tea ceremony and look forward to learning more about the preparation of tea.

A Mecha-ike a day keeps Char away!
Feeling bored? Feeling down? Feeling like the whole world is about to collapse onto you? Look no further as today we will be introducing a TV show to you that is bound to make you laugh and make your day! This show is none other than Mecha-Mecha Iketeru, or more commonly known as Mecha-ike.

Yuuki Aoi
Today, for the music corner, I will be introducing a singer/voice actress/actress , 悠木 碧(Yuuki Aoi). For those who may not be familiar with her, perhaps the fact that she is the voice behind the character, Madoka, in Puella Magi Madoka Magica may ring a familiar tune in your heads.

A Fine Day with Kagoshima Students!
On the afternoon of the 4th November, we met our guests at the School of Biological Sciences (SBS). We were glad to take up this opportunity of hosting a group of students for the Kagoshima Prefecture Youth Exchange School Visit 2014.

A Look at MIZ Japanese Restaurant
I had a great time eating with Justine at MIZ, a small restaurant located in town, with its traditional atmosphere and homely décor which reminded me of some of the family restaurants I had visited in Japan. Justine and I had the opportunity to try many of MIZ’s signature dishes, which highlighted their cooking philosophy and high standards.

Our annual JCF is coming up soon, taking place from 4-6 February 2015. Our booths are open from 10am – 5pm daily and we are located at the walkway outside NTU Coffee bean and Nanyang Auditorium.
