2014 Most Recommended Vocaloid Songs
The year 2014 has ended and it was one filled with many new and awesome vocaloid music. here, I will be sharing with you my personal top 10 favourite of all the creations in 2014.
10) 一騎当千/ Ikkitousen by Divine Diva (Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Megurine Luka, IA & GUMI)

Ikkitousen alongside Gishianki (疑心暗鬼) was Umetora’s 2nd work of 2014 among his famous 4-letter song series. Despite the series being hugely popular due its erotic and sexy usage of the Vocaloid vocals, something that was still present in the song, what truly caught my attention was the lyrics and the notion of ‘never giving up’, matching entirely with the song title which means being a match for a thousand. Definitely a song of motivation in times of need.

This song was written based on some of Takahashi Kazumi’s literature works. When I first heard of this song, I found it to be a very unique song, something I have never listened before. The “ah ah ah” parts at the start was especially weird and in some way funny but the song was strangely addictive and catchy and I soon find myself going back for more every day.
Reol’s vocals didn’t help with the addiction as well with her nicely done cover. Also, her timely arrangement of adding a certain part of “ラットが死んだ, Rat died”, another P.I.N.A’s song, was really wonderful.

A song written for 96Neko’s 3rd album, 40meterP whose songs are known for its instrumental feels, wrote what probably is my favourite sad song in 2014. The guitar, piano was really matching and soothing for this song. If you feel like crying over a breakup or something similar as upsetting, I would highly recommend this song though I rather that will never happen.
7) ECHO by GUMI

This was definitely the English song of the year in the Vocaloid scene with it cracking already 500k views on Nico Nico Douga and over 1million views in YouTube. The song resembles a little of English pop songs with even comments over comparison with Lady Gaga’s.

This is a song written for the albums ‘Upload’ and ‘Download’ which are based on the Vocaloid doujin music scene, where song writers upload their written songs for viewers to download to cover or try singing, many of who due to this, grew into fame and public recognition.
Though the concept by itself kind of makes my decision a little bias but it’s a really good song, no doubt about it.

The same song writer for 6th song in this ranking, Connecting. Halyosy wrote this song for his 3 year old nephew, a song that will give him a push in the back if he were to ever get lost or waver.
The song probably was one of the most popular songs in Nico Nico Douga in 2014 and was the ending song for Day 1 of Nico Nico Party Concert as well as being played after Nico Nico Kuni Kaigi ended in AFA Singapore.

One of Giga-P’s many great pieces in 2014. The title, Persecution Complex Cellphone Girl (LOL) in English, itself is full of win! The beat, the rhythm is so addictive and good. Getting yourself drowned by the beat would be my advice to you when you are listening to this song. The MV by Okiku is very well done and amazing as well, do look out for that too.

A love song about betrayal of your partner, about having an affair and being guilty of it. But yet, it’s not only you. Love the piano, the trumpet in this song and if you watch the makings, I think you will developed a stronger respect and appreciation to all the producers in writing and producing such songs. The MV art is so super cute too.

The perfect song for representing a guy’s thought. This is how perverted they are. Girls, take note. The lyrics are perfect and it’s even more amazing that Reol, a female, wrote the lyrics.
Phrases like “Sneaking a peek at your shirt collar’s gap”, “Q. Sketch a parabola on senpai. A. Convex up there, convex down there” are just too good to not like.
That being said, the tune of the song is really catchy as well and I remember myself raping, no pun intended, the repeat button the moment I laid my ears on the song.

Personally, I didn’t fall in love with the song immediately when I first heard it. It took me a good week or so. But when I did, it was just so damned addictive that I would play it everywhere I go.
The swaying of your body as you adsorb the beat into you, it’s called resonance, in Japanese, hibikase.
