Did you know that ships are especially important in Singapore as they play a key role in our economy? Singapore has the world’s second busiest port (behind Shanghai) – Nearly 135000 vessels pass through Singapore in 2014! Ships come in various forms; From small and powerful tugboats to technological marvels like MS Allure of the Seas. But did you know? Some ships can also transform into pretty girls!

Kantai Collection, 艦隊これくしょん or better known by fans as Kancolle,艦これ (literally, Fleet Collection) is a Japanese animation series that started airing earlier this year on Janurary 7, 2015. Similar to the game, it is mainly about kanmusu (or fleet girls), who possesses the spirits of Japanese warships fighting against the abyssal fleet, or “deep sea fleet”, whom they have lost their world to. In the anime, the ship girl Fubuki is featured as the main character, with her point of view as the storyline. Currently it is planned for a total of 12 episodes.

There are various characters in the anime that are cast by the same voice actress, which is similar to the game. Fubuki is voiced by the voice actress, Uesaka Sumire, flanked with other notable voice actresses like Sakura Ayane (Naka, Nagato, Shimakaze) and Touyama Nao (Kongou Four Sisters, Takao). I will not be mentioning about the plotas that would not be very nice for people who have not watched the anime and/or are waiting for the season to end before beginning!

Overall , with the airing of the ending recently, I felt that the anime might not have been what some fans or viewers are expecting. Although the voice casting is good, the anime storyline just doesn’t click that well to me. In fact, the very thought I have at the ending is

Literally “What is this?!”

I still do recommend this show however, given the hype that it has and personally, it provides more immersion if you play the game as well.
